If one has had a negative or traumatic experience, it is as if it was “frozen” in time and it stays with them. Then during the course of daily living when a similar situation arises, it triggers that old experience along with the fear and pain that may accompany it. Often this results in acting out on those old fears sometimes without fully realizing where it came from or why.
The Process of Healing
At Open Heart Healing we work with the cause and not just the symptoms of the difficulty. This brings about understanding and awareness, which is the first step in healing.
The next step is to make a new and different choice. If you want a different experience in your life, you must be willing to make a different choice. Continuing to make the same choices and expecting a different outcome does not work. It often can result in feelings like “I’ll never heal this” or “I better just learn to live with the pain”. These attitudes can lead to further depression, anger and pain.
The third step in healing is commitment. This can be difficult for some because this means staying true to the desire to change. Change is a constant in our lives but many want to hold onto the old ways and to the old pain. Commitment involves knowing that you deserve joy, fulfillment, peace, happiness and passion in your life.
It also involves being patient with your self as you heal. When you make a change in your life, you are transitioning from the old to the new. This takes time. It is important to be gentle, patient and nurturing with yourself during this transition.
The last step is action. Taking action is required to complete the healing. When one truly desires to heal from the heart, tests will be presented to see if they really want to make a different choice and are committed to it. Taking action and making the new choice honors the desire to heal.
Once a healing has occurred, it is also important to celebrate! Celebration seals the healing and illuminates the next step to take. Celebration is taking time to be proud of your accomplishment and honor your self.
